From: cathy baker Date: Tue, 5 Aug 2025 02:04:07 +0000 When I started researching James Lake one of the first things I came across was a DNA match that had him in his tree with Jane Elizabeth Stover as his wife.  This DNA match descends from James/Jane, Isaac/Mary, James/Sarah, same as I do.  His Great Grandfather was George, son of James/Sarah.  My Great Grandfather was George’s brother Frank, also son of James/Sarah.  But he had James born in England. Tried to message him through Ancestry and got no response. So I knew James came to Norwich, Ontario so that’s when I contacted Norwich Archives.  They have James coming there, from New York State, as part of the Peter Lossing land deal and he owned property in 1820.  Norwich Archives had a birthdate of 1757 and he died 26 July, 1844.  They sent me a copy of his will.  His gravestone also has the date of death as 26 July, 1844, aged 88 years so, if that’s his age at death he would have been born 1756/1757.   Brant OGS sent me a copy of the information on the cemetery and what the tombstones say and it has the same information.  I have been able to find more children of his, using my DNA matches and information I’ve collected, and some census records show that “their father was born in New York”.    Linda Sizemore Miles and I know that he was in Albany New York because his daughter Mary Polly, who Linda’s husband Jim Miles is a descendant of, was born in Albany. Many trees have Nicholas Lake/Mattha Tealor as son of Nicholas and Marytje and I have 23 DNA matches in their family line under their Granddaughter Mary Lake who married Daniel Moon.  Mary’s parents were Nicholas Lake and Mary Place, son of Nicholas and Mattha.   Kathyrn Sutcliffe, a DNA match to me and in our Lake group, also descends through Nicholas Lake/Marytje Snyder through their son Nicholas/Mattha Tealor.  Their son John married Orange Blanchard and he is Kathryn’s line.  John, brother of Nicholas/Mary Place.
