Buried 1st Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Metachen, NJ. His wife was Margaret T. Ross b. 1823, NY, d. 1895 Middlesex Co., NJ. Amos Robins was the son of Nathan & Elizabeth ? Robins. Nathan Robins was born abt. 1782 in NY, d. 1858 in Metachen, Middlesex Co., NJ. Nathan Robins migrated from NYC around 1832 & began farming at Metachen, NJ. I don't know if Nathan Robins was related to the Daniel Robins 1627-1714 family. Does anyone know who this Amos ROBINS might be ? ... Belvidere Apollo Belvidere, NJ 30 June 1871 Death of the Hon. Amos Robins.--The Hon. Amos Robins, of New-Brunswick, N. J., died on Tuesday morning. He was a leading politician of the State, and was a prominate candidate for the nomination for Governor to be made next month. In the contest for the nomination in 1868, Mr. Robins stood next in popularity to Gov. Randolph, as shown by the final ballot. He was elected President of the State Senate in 1864, and a second time in 1870. He served as a Senator through three terms. On his final retirement from the Legislature in in [sic] 1870, a special resolution was unanimously passed by the Senate highly complimentary to Mr. Robins, with expression of regret for his retirement. A handsome ivory gavel was also presented to him on behalf of the Senate. He was about 60 years old.
