He worked for the Soo Line Railroad. His father was Dennis Mahoney of Vermont and his mother was Mary Dulin (also spelled Doolan) of Troy. Both may have actually been born in Ireland. My father was the fifth child born to them. In 1924, Edward married Mable Elizabeth Ahern (Ahearn) in Albany, NY . They lived in Troy, NY. They were supposed to have had children together. He left (perhaps his children might have even thought him dead). Sometime after 1957, he settled in Minneapolis, met my mother, and I was born in 1963. In 1973, he left for NY and died in 1979 in Oswego, NY. I know I have relatives out there on my Mahoney side and would appreciate any information I could get. My purpose is to find the maiden name of Johanna. William is single on the 1875 census and living with Johanna on the 1880 census. Johanna died in 1882. There were two Johanna Morrisons' in Lansingburgh. From an article in the 1880 Troy NY Daily Times about the arrest of a Johanna Morrison, "Johanna Morrison was arrested yesterday on a bench warrant and taken to jail." This one was not mine but married to a Victor Morrison of no relation. There is a death notice for my Joanna Morrison (Mrs. William). She died October 2, 1882 and the notice was printed in the Lansingburgh Courier of October 7, 1882, page 2 column 2. After looking at the original there is no biographical information about Johanna/Joanna. Johanna (maybe Joanna) was born in Ireland in 1835. I do not think , but am not sure, there were any children. I have not been able to find anything on the Troy Irish Genea Society, but then I am a bit clumsy in research. I wish I knew how to use Fulton History as that might help, but that site is way beyond me. :) Thank you. He apparently went directly to Troy, as if he had pre-determined to go there. No family members (nor friends, I think) were there (not even in the USA), so what was the attraction? For a 22 year-old with no family, I would have thought New York City would hold more allure. Was there a large population of Germans/Danes from the Schleswig area there? [they'd just gone thru a brutal war as Germany and Denmark fought over who'd control Schleswig.] Any thoughts as to what the reason might be? [a carpenter could probably find work anywhere] I just can't understand why he'd pick Troy. And what were the common emigrant routes to Troy? I've never found him in the New York immigration/passenger lists, and so I've wondered if many of the immigrants to Troy perhaps came thru Canada or ??? Any conjectures appreciated. I understand that the Troy directories include West Troy and a few other towns nearby. Anybody know how I can get those microfilms or online access? Or maybe there are people who could do lookups where I could get a copy of the AL through AR sections of some of those directories? All ideas are welcome! (These are simply copied and pasted from my research notes before I discovered the second Johanna Morrison in town) There is an article in the 1880 Troy NY Daily Times about the arrest of a Johanna Morrison, "Johanna Morrison was arrested yesterday on a bench warrant and taken to jail." Due to the unusual first name, one assumes, but cannot prove, this is the wife of William Morrison. I have two things I'm trying to determine: 1) the connection in Rensselaer County and 2)Who is Bailey Mountain named after? I have spoken with Denise Marr and the historical society and still have my wall. Any help would be appreciated. holdenft (holdenft) St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Troy https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.rensselaer/5131 Mon, 20 Jan 2020 09:47:21 GMT Has anyone had any experience in reaching out to them for records? Charles is the son of William McCarthy of Brooklyn, NY and had brothers James McCarthy and John Robert McCarthy (of Brooklyn>Patchogue>Levittown who married Lillian Poltronieri). I believe there may have been a sister (named Edna? or Margaret?) and possibly there was a set of twins in the family (although I don't know which ones were the twins). I am trying to reconnect the family ties and fill in unknown family history. I am the daughter-in-law of John Robert, married to his son, Terrence. There is a Tallman Chase, son of John and Margaret Crannell Chase who could be the father of Lewis. Daniel Chase (1786-1853) married to Althea Gordon was either an Uncle or great Uncle to Lewis. They were in Oswego Co. NY and then moved to Canada. A Tallman Chase married Sally Wallace 3-23-1824 in Hoosick. Lewis stated that he was " cast on the world at age 12 and therefore had no family history to hand down." Lewis was a pastor in the Schuyler Meth. Prot. Church in 1843 and married to Almira Huffstater, a daughter of George and Sally ShoecraftHuffstater. They moved to Oswego County, NY and both died there. I would like to know if this is the correct Tallman. If anyone has any information,I would be most appreciative. It was very old, very large and Dad said something about it being a summer camp at one time. I remember it having two entrance ways to driveway with a big metal fence that surrounded it, big stone pillars at each end. There was a tennis court in rough shape, multiple garages altogether. I dont believe we ever used the beach as it was overgrown. We did not rent there long as it was way too expensive to heat and we moved on to Millers Hill in Postenkill. I dont even know the name of the road It was on. Does anyone know if Reichards Lake ever went by another name? Does anyone know what place I am talking about. It had to have some kind history if it was a summer camp at one time. I would love to know more about the history of this old house, who built it and lived in it so long ago. I moved so many times in my childhood I am gathering info for my kids/grandchildren where I had lived as a kid Thank you Judy About 1960 I lived in a huge house that we rented and it had lake rights with it.
