He was born 30 Jan 1826 in Thompsonville, Sullivan County. He disappears from the records after the 1860 US Federal Census, where he was living with his brother and the brother's family. According to "The Bulkeley Genealogy", published in 1933, Abram "went South as a young man". He was the son of Eliphalet Stratton and his wife Rachel (Lawson). The reason I'm interested, is that my great-great grandfather went by the name "Andrew Nelson". He first appears in the records in 1872 in Louden County, Tennessee, when he married Mary Elizabeth Thurston. Family lore states that he changed his name to avoid the consequences of something he was involved in back in New York. DNA matches between Andrew Nelson's descendents, and descendents of Eliphalet and Rachel (Lawson) Stratton, confirm a relationship at a distance suggesting Andrew and Abram (Abraham) were the same man. She is listed in the 1920 Census as Jane McDonald and in the 1930 Census as Jane Holpp. Family history and Census information indicates that she was born Jane Cash in July, 1896, in NJ. Can anyone tell me any online NY sources where I can find out, for instance, her date of death? I moved to Australia when young, and now my father and other relatives have died, and I've lost touch with anyone -- including my father's two half-sisters -- who might be able to help me. Living in Australia adds another barrier to my search. Many thanks in advance for any tips about finding out more about my grandmother, perhaps through local newspaper archives or such. Ellen was 34 and Benjamin was 31. I believe in my heart that Ellen was married to a Worth before Eaton based both on the census and Ellen 's age, but have never been able to find any evidence of it. Ellen is buried in Barryville, April 1866. It appears that the family also spent time in Orange. If anyone knows of any town or county records I would appreciate knowing about them. I live about 3 hours away in PA and am partially disabled so a trip in person would be difficult. I would be more than happy to pay someone who might be willing to look into this! A few years back I managed to get hold of some information that opened a pandora's box! It was amazing. Unfortunately, there is still limited information on her death. Her burial site is unknown due to the cemetery caretaker not keeping proper records. She was buried in a Pauper's grave and so she is physically lost forever. My dad was a young boy and has limited memories. If there is anybody who could help with this, it would be greatly appreciated. Please e mail me at RogersBobbyJo@yahoo.com Her name at death could have been: Eleanor Mae Hall, Eleanor Mae Rogers or Eleanor Mae Pollard. The year of death is unknown specifically but it was 1961, 1962 or 1963. She died in the Spring time frame ... Maybe March by Dad and Aunt's recollection. Her death occurred as the result of a car accident ... apparently a car being driven by a drunk driver side swiped her. She was ejected from the car and broke her neck when she hit a tree. She was driving a red and white 1953 Chevy Bel Air. Hi everybody, I have been searching for YEARS AND YEARS for information related to my grandmother. His family (father: Jacob Scott, mother: Mary Joscelyn and two younger brothers) were living in Rockland in 1860, according to the census record I found. I believe his mother, Mary also lived in Rockland in 1850 with her family but have been unable to verify that is her family I found in the census. So, with this assumption that the family was likely in Rockland during 1854 when my third great-grandfather was born, I was wondering what churches were in the Rockland area that they may have gone to? I don't know their religious affiliation. I'm hoping to find a baptism record for him or his younger siblings: Winfred, Napoleon, Clara, George and Anna--all born in New York between 1854 and 1866. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you! Katie Hello everyone, I'm working on trying to locate the birthplace of my third great-grandfather, Levi Scott. The 1820 census has this family living in Thompson, Sullivan County, New York. I have not been able to find his parents or anything about him or where he is buried. I believe this family is still in Sullivan County in 1830 census but leaves some time after that, at least Anna and the two youngest sons, Isaac and Benjamin. I'm still trying to put this family together as I believe there were 8 more children.
