Date: Sun, 31 Oct 2004 09:58:55 -0400 From: gerifelker@webtv.net (geri brennan) Bucks Co.-The Williams Family The Williams Family of Nockamixon and Tinicum and other parts of Bucks Co, trace their ancestry to Joseph Williams of Boston, MA. He and his Lydia had 10 children, namely: Joseph born 1670 William, 1671, Richard, 1673, Hannah 1674, died as a baby, Daniel, 1676, Hannah, 1679, Jeremiah, 1683, Elizabeth, 1686, and Mary Jeremiah Williams, left the Church of England and joined the Quakers in 1706-07. He presented a certificate to the MM of Phila., from the MM of RI. he requested a Certificate of Clearness from the Phila. MM to Flushing MM to marry Philadelphia Masters, d/o George and Mary (Willis). In 1680 or 81 George Masters, a tailor of NY married Mary, d/o Henry Willis, of Flushing, LI. Henry was fined for allowing his daughter to be married by Friends ceremony. After their marriage they went England, where their first child was born, a daughter, named Mary, born 1682. Upon their return they must have been in Phila. for a while, as the second child, a daughter, was born their. She was the first white female child born in the city and was name Philadelphia. Jeremiah and Philadelphia Williams lived in the City of NY. They had 2 children, Joseph born 1710, died in infancy, and Hannah born 1711,married Benjamin, s/o Charles and Elizabeth (Jackson) Doughty, of LI in 1737. Philadelphia Williams died in 1715. Jeremiah Williams married 2nd Mary Newbury, d/o Walter and Anne (Collins). At the time of her marriage to Jeremiah, Mary had one son, Joseph Howland. Jeremiah and Mary had children; Anne born 1719, married 1st to Fortunatus Woods, 2nd to Ebenezer Carter. Walterr, born 1724 married out, Benjanim, 1724, Jeremiah 1726, Lydia 1729, and Martha date unknown, married Benjamin Hill at Kingwood, 1753. In the year Jeremiah and his two sons Benjamin and Walter to Hunterdon Co., NJ, and his daughter Martha moved to Kingwood. His daughter Mary came in 1758. Some years later he moved with his wife and daughter Mary to Nockamixon, Bucks Co. He died in 1766,and was buried at Quakertown, NJ. Benjamin Williams, s/o Jeremiah and Mary (Newbury) was born 1722. He married Mercy Stevenson of Kingwood, NJ, in 1744. Children; John, 1745, married Hannah pursell, Mary 1747, Jeremiah, 1749, Margaret 1751 married John Iliff, Lydia born 1752 married David Burson, Benjamin 1756, married Dorothy Leiper, Anne 1758, married Jacob Ritter, William born 9m 20, 1760, married Rachel Leiper, Samuel born 1762 married Mary Watson, Susanna born 7 mo 30, 1756 married a Mr. Stroud. Friends of Upper Bucks Co Children of Benjamin and Mercy (Stevenson) William, John, born 1745, married Hannah Pursell, Mary, unmarried, Jeremiah born 1749, died 1834, married Mary Blackledge, Margaret married John Iliff, Lydia, died 1836 married David Burson, Benjamin married Dorothy Leiper, Anne born 7/15/1758 married Jacob Ritter, Samuel born 1762 married Sarah Watson, Susanna married __ Stroud. Children of Jeremiah and Mary (Blackledge) Williams, John, born 1780 died 1858, married Christina Kimbal, Thomas B., born 1781 married Rebecca Arndt, Benjamin, born 1782, married 1st to Mary (Meredith) Burson, widow of David Burson, d/o Simon and Hannah Meredith, of Warwick, Bucks co. 2nd to Rachel, d/o Benjamin and Dorothy Williams, his 1st cousin, Susan, 1785 unmarried, William, 6/12/1789 married Hannah Whiting, Isaac B. married Martha Shelton White, Margaret married Abel Lester of Richland, and Jeremiah married Margaret Lake. Of the above named children, John and Thomas purchased their father's land in Tinicum. Of the other sons of Benjamin Williams, were prominently identified with Bucks Co.. Benjamin, Isaac B., Jeremiah and Susan Williams and Margaret Lester moved to Ohio with their families about 1840.
