from the book: Bucks County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 17th & 18th Centuries, Volume 2, Quaker Records: Falls and Middletown Monthly Meetings, by Anna Miller Watring & F. Edward Wright, Family Line Publications, Westminster, Maryland, 1994 p. 62 (this is a direct quote) -- 3/4/1702 - Friends to speak to Elizabeth Hughes and Mary Robbins concerning their disorderly carriage. Just as a reminder, Quakers delayed their acceptance of the calender adjustment from Julian to Gregorian for a lot longer than other groups of people. Their religious beliefs dictated that the new year started in the spring, so according to their records, the 1st month was March, the 12th month, February, etc. According to a 20 Feb 1999 email from Daniel Treadway, a subscriber to the QUAKER-ROOTS Rootsweb list, "Historical Quaker practice is to avoid honouring these gods [the gods for which the days and months were named, i.e. January honors Janus, and Thursday honors the Norse god Thor] by calling the months and days of the week by numbers--3rd month for March nowadays, but before 1752 3rd month was May."
