Posted by: gheagy@netflash.net gheagy@netflash.net Date: Tue Oct 31, 2017 10:36 am ((PDT)) I have few connections of Columbia County, PA, Robbins: - Vincent Robbins born 1764 married Elizabeth Kinney. - Mary Robbins born abt 1780 (dtr. of William born abt. 1757) married Simon Kinney born 1776 Oxford Twp, Warren County, NJ. - Simon Kinney had a brother, John, who lived in Oxford Twp, Warren County, NJ. John wrote his Will in March 1844. He names his brothers and sisters, including his brother, Simon of Columbia County, PA, and his deceased sister, Elisabeth Robbins. - I believe Vincent's wife, Elizabeth, is probably Simon and John Kinney's sister. - Vincent married abt. 1790 in New Jersey, where he had his first children. - In 1800, William Robbins, Vincent Robbins, and Simon Kinney are living in Greenwood Twp, Columbia County, PA. - If I have this connection correct, Vincent Robbins lived in or near Warren County, NJ. Oxford Twp. borders Mount Bethel Twp, Northampton County, PA, where William Robbins lived prior to moving to Columbia County, PA. Researching the Kinney family may be more difficult than the Robbins family. Garry Posted by: "Tracey Marcelo" tracey.marcelo@gmail.com marcelofamilytx Date: Wed Nov 1, 2017 6:31 am ((PDT)) Hi Garry, This family is very interesting. Is there any possibility that Kinney is really McKinney? I ask because there are McKinney's who are in-laws to my Daniel Robbins and wife Sarah Blatchley and Joshua Robbins and wife Mary Blatchley. (This is the same Daniel Robbins who I believe to be listed in the 1774 Oxford twp. tax list.) A sister of the Blatchley girls, Mercy (b. 1745), married Daniel McKinney--probably around 1764. Daniel McKinney had a brother named Colin. I believe those brothers are called M'Kennie in this newspaper article from 1766. Note the closeness of their neighbor--Elisha Robins. “To be sold at Public Vendue, at the Court-House in Sussex County, on Tuesday the 26th of November next [1766]. “A tract of Land lying in the Township of New-town, in the County of Sussex, and Province of New-Jersey, on the head Branch of Pawlins Kill, and divided into the following Lots of Farms, viz. [namely]: “No. 1              168 Acres, in Possession of Mathas Snook No. 2              209              John Loder No. 3              143              Not tenanted [No listing for Lot No. 4] No. 5              250              Daniel & Colin M’Kennie No. 6              173              Leonard Weidner No. 7              140              Elisha Robins No. 8              157              Elisha Robins No. 9              144              Benjamin Brewer No. 10              152              Nicholas Yost No. 11              211              Peter Cass [No listing for Lot No. 12] [Total listing of 1,747 acres of land, or about 2-3/4 square miles. With Lots 4 and 12 added in, the tract would have exceeded 3 square miles.] “This Tract of Land lies about Six Miles from Sussex Court House, and five from Andover Iron Works, which is a good Market for all Kinds of Country Produce; and the great Road to Goshen runs thro- it: It is exceeding well water’d by Springs and Brooks; well accommodated with Meadow Land, and fine Swamps, and a sufficient Quantity of Wheat Land, level and clear of Stones, and as good in quality as any upland in Sussex County. One Sixth part of the Purchase Money to be paid on the 1st Day of May, 1766. One sixth on the first Day of November, 1766. One sixth on the first Day of May, 1767, all without Interest; and the remaining Three-sixths secured by a Mortgage, or other satisfactory Security, may be paid as may suit the Conveniency of the purchaser. The Lands will be shewn by Elisha Robins, living on the Premises, or Robert Allen; Living at Pepack, in Somerset County. And any Person choosing to Purchase at private Sale, may apply to said Robert Allen, who has a Power to agree for the same. The Title is indisputable, and good and sufficient Deeds will be given to the Purchasers, by JAMES PARKER.” [James Parker owned the deeds and titles to the entire tract of land. The lands were shown to prospective buyers by Elisha Robins, tenant of sections 7 and 8. Robert Allen of Pepack, Somerset County, acted as land agent. Section 1, comprised of 168 acres, was listed as “in possession of” Mathias Snook. Section 11, comprised of 211 acres, was listed as “ditto” Peter Cass.] It might be a red-herring for your Kinneys. But I thought I'd mention it! Tracey Posted by: "Garry Heagy" gheagy@netflash.net gheagy@netflash.net Date: Wed Nov 1, 2017 11:15 am ((PDT)) Tracey,This article is from a History of Warren County, NJ. Broadway is in Franklin Twp, Warren County.William McKinney was born in Ireland in 1723, and, when a young man, bought about 500 acres of land west of Broadway and lived on it until his death in 1777. One of his sons, John, born in 1757, succeeded to the homestead and in 1805 built substantial stone farm buildings thereon. He had a distillery, which was operated after his death in 1838 by his son, William. William McKinney built a second stone house on the farm in 1835, and a frame dwelling in 1865. His sons were John, George W., Henry and James. The old stone dwelling is now occupied by William McKinney. Posted by: gheagy@netflash.net gheagy@netflash.net Date: Sun Nov 5, 2017 7:28 am ((PST)) I've just been analyzing my information concerning Mary Robbins wife of Simon Kinney. I assumed Mary was the daughter of William Robbins who was living in Greenwood Twp, Columbia County, PA, prior to 1790; Simon and Mary also lived in Greenwood Twp. I got thinking about this because Simon's sister, Elizabeth, married Vincent Robbins. Mary Robbins was born by abt. 1780, she married Simon Kinney about 1798. From the 1790 census for Greenwood Twp, Columbia (then Northumberland) County, PA: Robins, William 1-1-1 Note: William has only 1 female, his wife. From the 1790 census for Northumberland County, PA: Robins, Joseph 2-2-2 Note: Joseph, who I believe is the father of Vincent, has a daughter, besides his wife. The daughter is no longer with the family in 1800 census. I now think Mary Robbins is a daughter of Joseph, and a sister to Vincent. They married Kinney siblings. Garry
