My name is Lynn (Marlynn) Robbins McFadden-McDonald. I was born in Washington, DC but have spent most of my life in Houston, Texas. I joined the group today and have only read a few of the emails sent by members. Already I found links to what I believe may be my gggggg grandparents. The following is my definite Robbins lineage: Kingston PA family: Parents: Thomas Rush Robbins & Elizabeth Holt Robbins Grandparents: Elias Howe Robbins Jr. & Sarah Parfitt G Grandparents: Elias Howe Robbins Sr. & Emily Prosser GG Grandparents: Cornelius Robbins & Hannah Wiggens (Wiggins)- Cornelius appears in John's will NJ family: GGG Grandparents: John Robins (Robbins) & Mary (Bedient?) possible NJ family: GGGG Grandparents: Joseph Robbins (Robins) & Hannah Pack GGGGG Grandparents: Daniel Robbins (Robins) & Hope Potter GGGGGG Grandparents: Richard Robbins (Robins) & Mary Can anyone verify these links? My Cornelius shows up in 1850 census in Kingston, PA but had spent time in Oswego NY as his son Elias, and some, if not all siblings, were born in NY; according to this census his parents came from NJ. Elias Sr came to PA with his family about 1844 from NY. Elias Sr and Elias Jr remained in Kinsgon area for most of their lives. My father, Thomas was born in Kingston on Mar 19, 1908 died in Arlington VA Dec 17 1980. I am the only child of Thomas. I will continue to look at this group's information and hope to be able to prove we are distant cousins many times removed!! I hope the group can be of some assistance in your search to find your link to the Daniel & Hope Potter Robins family of NJ. We try to make new members aware of the numerical references used by the group for 11 children of Daniel & Hope. They are indentified according to their birth order, 1-Mary, 2-Daniel, 3-Lydia, etc. etc. This information from my 5-Richard line may possibly help you with your search in reference to 5-Richard's son John Robbins & wife Mary Bedant as your possible ancestors. John Robbins of Dividing Creek, Cumberland Co., NJ only had four children, Mary, John, Jr. Ruth & Rachel. John Robbins, Jr. had no sons named Cornelius. I've never discovered the name Cornelius anyplace in this family. The line of John Robbins is very well documented by Bible records, family records, church records, vital records, deeds & wills. The name Cornelius first appears in the Daniel Robins family in the line of 2-Daniel in the June 29, 1775 will of John Robins of Amwell, Hunterdon Co., NJ & later in lines of this same family. I hope that we can be of assistance in your research. It has been my experience that most of us have come across bits and pieces of information not known by others. Often we come across these tidbits while exploring false trails in our ancestry. This group provides and excellent mechanism of getting that information to the right descendent. Since the father of your Cornelius is supposed to have moved to Pennsylvania from New Jersey in 1803, I think you are probably descended from Daniel Robins and Hope Potter. Don't be disheartened by Sara's information. I too have reservations with your naming John Robins and Mary Bedient as parents of Cornelius Robins. Henry Blackman Plumb in his book History of Hanover names John Robins and Mary Garrison, (daughter of Cornelius Garrison) as the parents of your Cornelius Robins. Because his book was published in 1885, I believe that he was close enough to the events he wrote about for his information to be considered reliable. His work is cited by Williams T. Blair in his own 1924 "The Michael Shoemaker Book" and I believe that I've seen other authors quoting Mr. Plumb. To address Sara's input about the use of the name Cornelius by Robins descendents, I'm aware of 2 besides your own. They are: 1. The son and other descendents of John and Eleanor Robins. John was a son of 2-Daniel. 2. The son and other descendents of Robert and Margaret (Sharps) Robins. Robert is believed to have been a gg-grandson of 2-Daniel, however we do not no which son of 2 Daniel he descends from. The namesakes of the 2 Cornelius Robins appear not to be a common ancestor. Roberts son was named after his wife's maternal grandfather. Because the mother of your Cornelius Robins had a father by that name, it is very possible that your Cornelius wasn't related to either of these people. Possibly of some assistance in determining the parents of your John Robins is that fact that he had a brother and a son named Abner. Gary D.
