'Butt' Robbins WW II vet, lumberman, enjoyed making wine Jesse C. "Butt" Robbins, 84, of 94 A Dutch Hill Road, Bloomsburg, formerly of 292 Salem School House Road, Unityville, died at the Bloomsburg Hospital on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008. He and his wife, the former Betty L. Adams, just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past April 9. Jesse was born in Jordan Township, on June 22, 1924, a son of the late Elmer and Catherine (Bacon) Robbins. Jesse was a lumberman and truck driver for Harvey Sones. He retired from Grumman's after 15 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a fire police captain for 10 years with the Unityville Vol. Fire Company. A member of both the Millville American Legion and VFW, Jesse was a life member of the International Good Sam Club and a member of the Good Sam (Chapter #8) Camping Club. He loved to hunt, fish and make homemade wine. He was also a member of the Susquehanna Boat Club in Montgomery, and the Lungerville Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Robbins, two daughters, Mary Lousie, wife of Randall Koser Sr., of Danville, Judith Ann, wife of Charles Hess, of New York; a sister, Dorothy Strode, and a brother, Chancey Robbins, both residing in Unityville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by a daughter, Susie Catherine Robbins; five brothers; and three sisters. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with his pastor, James Harvey, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy, with graveside military honors by combined veterans organizations. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. The family will provide the flowers and respectfully suggests that flowers not be sent.
