The Daily Journal, Vineland NJ Monday, February 13, 2006 Alice Liss Barlam, 87 Retired Millville school nurse Alice Liss Barlam, 87, of Millville died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at her home. Born in Port Norris, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Carrie (Shaw) Lake and had lived in Millville for the past 57 years. She was a descendent of Simon Lake, who invented the submarine, and of the Methodist Family Ministers, who founded Ocean City. Mrs. Barlam graduated from Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia as a registered nurse, and also attended Glassboro State College and Trenton State College. She worked at Millville Hospital for 13 years and in Philadelphia for another six years, and then as a school nurse in Millville for 22 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Millville and a retired member of the N.J.E.A. She is survived by her husband, Paul J; two sons, William Joseph Liss of Arizona and Gregory Lake Liss of Maryland; a stepdaughter, Linda Middleton of Delaware; two sisters, Roxanna Roe of Millville and Lois Jenkins of Dividing Creek; four grandchildren and a great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, William Liss, in 1972; and a brother, Joseph Lake Jr., in 1944. Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
