Eureka Times Standard; Eureka CA; 2005-1-5 *Alice Margaret (Rasmussen) Lake* Alice Margaret (Rasmussen) Lake passed away suddenly on December 31, 2004, just four days before her 81st birthday. Alice was born in Smithwick, South Dakota, on January 4, 1924, and she was the seventh of sixteen children born to Fred and Bethel Rasmussen. In 1941, she graduated from Buffalo Gap High School in Buffalo Gap, South Dakota. She married Frank 'Hank' Lake on May 19, 1942, and they moved to Fortuna in October 1954. After many years of cooking in the cafeteria and spending cold Friday nights in the snack bar at the football games, Alice retired from Fortuna High School in 1985. She enjoyed her retirement by traveling and spending time with her family. Alice is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law: Rojer Lake, and Ron and Pat Lake all of Fortuna. She is also survived by grandson and wife, Kevin & Kelly Nyberg of Fortuna, and granddaughters and husbands: Angela & Keith Schuetzle of Scotia, Kristen and Steve Brach of Powell River, Canada, Jennifer and Vince Peterson of Marysville, WA, and Amy & Tim Jones of Fortuna. Alice is also greatly blessed with eight great grandsons and one great granddaughter: Cody, Logan, & Branson Schuetzle, Zachary, Isaiah, & Tyrus Brach, Regan Nyberg, and Dillon & Kate Jones. She is survived by her brothers: John (Joan) Rasmussen of Fortuna, David (Verda) of Wyoming, Gary of Nebraska, and Frank of South Dakota, sisters Mary Jane Flyte and Dorothy Morgan both of South Dakota, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Frank 'Hank' Lake (December 23, 2000); her parents, Fred and Bethel Rasmussen; four sisters; and five brothers. We will always remember the family dinners she enjoyed preparing and the holidays that we spent at Grandma and Granddad's house. There will always be the memories of playing frenzied games of cards and spoons, camping, traveling, agate hunting, canning and making jelly, her cinnamon rolls on Christmas mornings, the warmth of the afghans she so lovingly crocheted, and playing games on New Year's Eve. Her house was always warm and welcoming to anyone who entered. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held for Alice on Friday, January 7, 2005, at 11:00 am at Grace Chapel (Calvary Chapel) 9th and 0 St., Fortuna and is open to all family and friends. A time of fellowship will be held immediately after the memorial in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Please join Alice's family in a time of remembrance and celebration of her life. Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Mortuary Chapels, Eureka. Donations may be made to Calvary Chapel Missionaries through Grace Chapel, Red Cross Tsunami Relief, or your favorite charity.
