Calvert Recorder, Prince Frederick, Md., 3/5/2008 Alice Martha Chew Lake, 77, Sunderland Alice Lake, 77, of Sunderland died Feb. 15, 2008, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She was born April 10, 1930, to the late Percy and Gladys Jones Chew. She attended Calvert County public schools. She was married in 1950 to the late Mark Adam Lake. At an early age she joined and attended Patuxent United Methodist Church in Huntingtown. In 2001, she transferred her membership to Mt. Hope United Methodist Church in Sunderland, where she sang with the Senior Choir. She also enjoyed singing with the Rainbow Gospel Singers for 30 years. She was a very lively person who loved people and her family. She was at her happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends. Sh was never too busy to welcome people into her home and she made sure that they never left her home hungary. She was a dedicated mother to 15 children. She taught them to respect themselves as well as others. She was preceded in death by four children; three grandchildren; three sisters, Hilda Brown, Eileen Hawkins and Mamie Morsell; and three brothers, Harry, Herman and Merton Chew. She is survived by her children, Maurice, William, Thomas, Charles, Joseph, Marshall and James Lake, Sharon Jones, Eugene, Joyce Chase, Gladys Lake, Carolyn Watkins, Sherleane Murphy, Betty Jackson and Fay Whiteside; sisters, Doris Rawlings and Leona Gary; 43 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; previous friends, Grace Rawlings, Becky Randall, Oscar Jones, Geraldine Gray, Mildred Wills, Shirley Wills and Virginia Brooks; all around best-buddy, Vivian Brown; and a host of other relatvies and friends. Funeral services were Feb. 20 at Mt. Hope Untied Methodist Chruch. Officating minister was the Rev. John Snowden. Interment was at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sunderland. Pallbearers were Oscar Gray, Leonard Jones, Oliver Jones, Rodney Jones, Spike Smith, Marty Taylor and Russell Winchester. Arrangements were provided by Sewell Funeral Home in Prince Frederick. Survivors include her children, Maurice, William, Thomas, Charles, Joseph, Marshall and James Lake, Sharon Jones, Eugene, Joyce Chase, Gladys Lake, Carolyn Watkins, Sherleane Murphy, Betty Jackson and Fay Whiteside; sisters, Doris Rawlings and Leona Gray, 43 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and apeical friends.
