Alice V. Kaplan
   Alice V. Kaplan, 87, died Feb. 23 at the Copper Ridge Nursing Home
in Sykesville.
   She was born Alice V. Lake on June 21, 1922, in Baltimore, to Mynard E.
and Nellie Lake (nee Clement). She married Joseph W. Kaplan in 1941 and
they were married for 60 years until his death in 2001. She lived in the
Severn area from 1952-2003 when declining health caused her to move in
with her daughter Sue V. Verillo in Arnold.
   For many years she worked as the pharmacy manager at Ferndale Pharmacy.
In her spare time, Alice enjoyed crochet, gardening and sports. She was
an avid fan of both the Ravens and the Orioles.
   In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, Joseph W.
Kaplan Jr. of Ducula, Ga.; a sister, Dorothy M. Orem of Baltimore;
five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
   Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kirkley-Ruddick
Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday.  Interment will follow in Meadowridge Memorial Park.
