GREEN Almeda died peacefully with her daughters at bedside on April 19, 2006 due to complications from Multiple Myeloma that she had battled for three years. She was born on September 15, 1913 in Caney, KS to Walter V. LAKE and Lula B. Lake. Her family moved to Noxon, MT in 1915 and after Almeda graduated from Noxon High School in 1931 she attended the University of Montana for three years then transferred to Dillon, MT to complete her teaching certificate. Her first job teaching was 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades in a two room school house in Camas Prairie, MT where she returned in August, 2000 to donate a computer to the school. She taught 1st through 8th grades in Trout Creek, MT before marrying Phillip M. GREEN on July 18, 1936. The marriage proved to be a life changing experience for Almeda as Phillip was a professional truck driver and for the next 20 years they moved many times. They lived in Mandan, ND, Reno, NV and in many cities in Oregon, Washington and Montana. While living in Thompson Falls, MT, Almeda was a bookkeeper for Larson/Green Cash Store. Leaving Montana, they moved to Spokane, WA. and then to Pasco where she taught 1st grade at Captain Gray Elementary School. They returned to Spokane in 1953 where she got her Bachelors Degree in Education at Whitworth ollege while teaching 1st grade at Lidgerwood Elementary School. Almeda and Phil moved to Burien, WA in 1959 where she taught 1st grade at Gregory Heights Elementary School until her retirement in 1968. Almeda was interested in genealogy and took advantage of her travels to trace her family back several generations. Prior to retirement Almeda and Phil moved to Auburn, WA where she lived for almost 40 years. Almeda was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Auburn WA. She was also a member of Eastern Star, Mount Silcox Chapter #111 in Thompson Falls, MT with a duel Membership at Southgate Chapter#190 in Burien, WA and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Almeda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phillip M. Green; brothers, Stanley O. Lake and Walter D. Lake. She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis (Fairrel) TACKETT, Federal Way, WA, and Jo (Sam) ELSOM, Newport, WA; grandchildren, Douglas (Denise) STOREY, Tacoma WA, JoLynn (Jeff Reikes) Storey, Savage, MN, Dawn (Kenny) LORENZI, Ukiah, CA, Tami (Jake) FLUGEL, Otis Orchards, WA, Kevin (Leisl) SCHELLING, Auburn, WA; step grandchildren, Monica (Deb Thompson) Tackett, Seattle, WA, Ash (Christine Panagos) Trace, Portland, OR, Deedra Tacket, Seattle, WA, Roxane (Jubal) Harpster, Seattle, WA. Skip Elsom (deceased), Elizabeth (Jim) Rector, Santa Cruz, CA; great-grandchildren, 21 (2 deceased); great-great grandchildren,2, one nephew and several nieces. Almeda spent her last two years in Life Care Center of Federal Way, where she struggled long and gracefully against Multiple Myeloma. The family extends their heartfelt graditude to th staff at Life Care Center for their support and loving care of Almeda during her final years. Mother/grandma shaped our lives through her own spirit and presence. Death leaves a memory no one can steal. We will always love and miss you and forever you will be in our hearts and prayers. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p,m. on Monday, April 24, 2006, at Price Helton Funeral Chapel, 702 Auburn Way N, Auburn, WA.
