LaCrosse Tribune; LaCrosse WI; 2000-2-5 Benjamin 'Ben' Lake Feb 05, 2000 SPARTA, Wis. -- Benjamin ``Ben'' Lake, 79, of Sparta, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Harlingen, Texas. Ben retired as a Sergeant First Class from the U.S. Army in 1970 after serving 30 years in the service. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He is survived by his wife, Pearl, of Sparta; children, Sam (Rachel) Lake and granddaughter, Holly of Kitzengen, Germany, Mary Lake of Chicago, Ill., Kathleen (Henry) Saulsberry and grandson, Ben, of Hanover Park, Ill., Kenneth (Kathleen) Teclaw and grandchildren, Mary Ruth and David of Tomah, Gina (Dr. Floyd) Jones and grandchildren, Ron and Marcel of Kennett, Mo.; two brothers, Jack (Brenda) Lake of Charlotte, N.C., Bob (Billie) Lake of Dalton, Ga.; seven sisters, Delores Adams of Hayden, Al., Ann Mitchel of Douglasville, Ga., Norma (Brown) Thompson of Carlton, Ga., Jane Rice of Alabama, Mabel (George) Marincin of Tacoma, Wash., Mattie (Joe) Sloan of Lincoln, Neb. and Billie Voyles of Savannah, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Mark Walljasper officiating. Military honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post 2112. Burial will be Monday in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be given. The Lanham-Kann Funeral Home, Sparta, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
