THE STAR Ventura County, CA Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010 Bernard B (Bernie) Lake of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 at the age of 87 after a long Illness. He was born in 1923 and attended schools in the Ventura area and then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942. Bernie served as an electrician 3rd class aboard the USS Coronado with the Seventh Fleet in the Pacific until 1945. He later worked as a journeyman electrician for the IBEW Local 952, then as an electrical engineer at the Point Mugu Missile Test Center. Bernie was preceded in death by his daughter, Carole Hart, and his son, Bernie Lake. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Betty, of Las Vegas; daughter, Nancy Manlet; granddaughters, Nicki Streb and Jaime Manlet; great-grandsons, Aaron, Mark and James Streb; son-in-law, Steve Hart; and daugher-in-law, Anita Lake. A celebration of Bernie's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 13 at the South Nevada Veteran's Cemetery Chapel in Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to the Odyssey Harbor House Hospice, 4011-A-McLeod Dr., Las Vegas, NV 89121.
