Topeka Capital-Journal; Topeka KS; 2001-9-26 MANHATTAN (KS ) -- Bessie I LAKE, 97, Manhattan, died Monday, Sept 24, 2001, at a Manhattan senior community. Mrs Lake was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She also had worked as a cook at schools and institutions in Manhattan. She also worked part time at the Kaw Valley Greenhouse. She was born Jan 14, 1904, at Quapaw, OK, to Lewis and Daisy GIVIDEN GRAHAM. She had lived in the Manhattan area since 1927 and moved from the farm to the senior community in Jan, 1997. Mrs Lake was a member of the Ashland Community Church and Ashland Ladies Aid. She married Robert LAKE on July 30, 1927, at Junction City (KS). He died Dec 31, 1981. She also was preceded in death by a son, Melvin LAKE, on May 18, 1993. Survivors include a son, Gerald D LAKE, Manhattan; two daughters, Betty RICKSON and Karen McKEEMAN, both of Manhattan; three sisters, Evalena ROBERTS, Manhattan, Fern MURPHY, Wheatland WY, and Faye DeMILLS, Baggs WY; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2pm Friday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, Manhattan. Burial will follow in the Ashland Cemetery, south of Manhattan. Friends may call Thursday at the funeral home, where visitation will be from 12:30pm Friday until service time.
