BESSIE Lake Matthews, 1902-2000

PITTSBURG - Services for Mrs. Bessie Lake Matthews, 97 , of Pittsburg
were held at 2 p.m., Sunday in Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. Ricky Ricks officiating.

Burial was at New Mine Cemetery in Camp County.

Mrs. Matthews died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at Moores Nursing Home.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin & Sue Matthews;
2 daughters, Anna Casteel, Whittier, CA, and Peggy Cashman, Elmhurst,
IL; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grand-children.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Mexia on Oct. 12, 1902, To Timothy David and
Iula Carmichael Walker Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband,
John Matthews, in 1967; a son, Rex Matthews; a daughter, Evelyn Matthews;
4 brothers; and 3 sisters. A Pittsburg resident most of her life, she
was a homemaker, a teacher and a United Methodist.

Pallbearers were John Matthews, Gary Smith, Steve Graves, Brandy Smith
and Dan Roberts.
