Sioux City Journal; Sioux City IA; 2000-9-13 Burton L. Lovell, 78, of Sioux City died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary B. Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mr. Lovell was born Dec. 22, 1921, near Laurel, Neb., the son of Elroy and Edna (Lake) Lovell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the China Burma Theater. He married Beverly J. Ryder Nov. 22, 1943, in Leavenworth, Kan. He was employed in sporting goods sales for many years, retiring in 1984. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Burts Place Rods and Reel Shop for several years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Bass Club. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Delores Rupe of Everett, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert; and a sister, Helen Dickson. Pallbearers will be Gene and Adam Nitzske, Robert and Michael Tallman and Dick and Mark Sturgeon.
