Lake, age 80, of Cadott, Wis., passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis. He was born on August 7, 1924, in Chippewa Falls to Warren and Edith (Nystrom) Lake. Burton grew up in the town of Anson, Chippewa County, where he was a longtime member of Anson United Methodist Church. He graduated from Cadott High School in 1942; and following graduation, he farmed with his father on the family dairy farm and later on his own farm. He retired from farming in 1988 and moved to the village of Cadott. Burton married Shirley Margaret Peterson in 1955, and they had three daughters. Shirley died in 1961. He then married Irene Meyer Poppe in 1973. He was a friend and neighbor to everyone as long as he was able; and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed one. He loved spending time with his family and friends - especially with a deck of cards and a few good jokes. He looked forward to times the grandchildren visited him; and his ready wit and sense of humor will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Burton always kept a positive attitude during the years of tragedy, accidents and poor health that helped him and his family. He appreciated all who helped him over the years. He is survived by his wife, Irene; two daughters, Susan (Randy) Summerfield of Bloomer and Alice (Michael Sr.) Ricucci of Catawba, Va.; three stepchildren, Thomas (Sandra) Poppe of Madison, Mary (Daniel) Rudahl of Mosinee and Joan (Bradley) Nasset of Medford; grandchildren, Robert (Kim), Richard (Shelly), Michael and Jennifer Summerfield all of Bloomer, Tamara Keller of River Falls, Haley (Todd) Hennlich of New Richmond, Michelle (Todd) Steif of Marathon City, Andrew Rudahl, Jesse and Samuel Poppe all of Madison; great-grandchildren, Austin Summerfield, Kelsey Nasset and Tucker and Laney Hennlich; one brother, William G. (Euvene) Lake of Wild Rose, Wis.; and also numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley; a daughter, Vicki; and a grandson-in-law, Peter Keller. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the English Lutheran Church of Bateman in the town of Lafayette with Pastor Karen Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Countrysid e Union Cemetery in the town of Goetz. Friends may call at the Leiser Funeral Home in Cadott on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and also one hour before services on Thursday at the church. Burton's request was that, in lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Christopher Reeve Spinal Cord Injury Foundation.
