Topeka Capital-Journal; Topeka KS; 2002-3-25 C Richard LAKE, 87, Topeka (KS), died Saturday, Mar 23, 2002, at a Topeka retirement center. He was born Sept 30, 1914, in Topeka, to Clarence T and Esther ROOT LAKE. He attended Topeka schools, the University of Kansas in Lawrence and the Institute of Business Economics at the University of Southern California. He worked for Santa Fe Railway for 43 years and was secretary and treasurer before he retired June 30, 1979. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 77th Infantry Division. He was a member of North Post No 400 of the American Legion and the Topeka Genealogical Society. He had served as chairman of the advisory committee of the treasury division of the Association American Railroads. He was a former member of the Kansas Association of Commerce and Industry and the Topeka Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the board of directors of the Topeka Public Library for many years, having served as chairman, vice chairman and treasurer of the board. He had been president of the Firends of the Topeka Public Library and president of the Northeast Kansas Library System. He also had been chairman of the Kansas Library Association's legislative committee. He married Margaret McKENNA on July 23, 1938, in Leavenworth (KS). She died in May 1978. He married Mable E SPILLNER on Jan 12, 1979, in Topeka. She died Feb 19, 1996. He married Mildred MYERS on Nov 21, 1996, in Topeka. She survives. Survivors include two sons, J Richard LAKE, Holton (KS), and Lt Col Daniel E LAKE, Bellevue NE; a daughter, Mary Lee SWANSON, Liberal (KS); a stepson, Richard K MYERS, Prescott AZ; three stepdaughters, Jean WEATHERS, Fort Jones CA, Joyce JONES, Omaha (NE), and Jan KIND, Murray KY; a brother, Kenneth E LAKE, Jerusalem AR; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 1pm Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Inurnment will be in Resurrection Chapel in Grace Cathedral Columbarium.
