San Francisco (CA) Chronicle, Tuesday, October 16, 1999 p. B4 MITCHELL, Carmen L. -- Died Friday October 22, 1999 at her home. She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years John H. Mitchell of San Anselmo; son Martin and his wife Shoko Mitchell of Tokyo, Japan; daughter Marina and her husband Rick Korman of Woodacre. Carmen is also survived by her loving grandchildren Alison, Steve, Makoto and Kai and her brother Bruce Lake of Oldtappan, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her sister Jeanne Wiemar. Aged 73 years, she was born September 9, 1926. A native of Washington. A teacher and librarian for 37 years, Carmen worked for San Francisco Unified School District at Roosevelt Middle School. She was a member of the American Federation of Teachers and a staunch supporter of liberal and environmental causes. She embraced the simple pleasures of each day. Services for Carmen will be held at a later date.
