Times Herald Record Middletown, NY 19 Jun 2009 Carol Ann Burke Middletown, NY Carol Ann Burke, born Carol Ann Martine in Middletown on January 14, 1939 to the late Michael J. and Dorothy Wahl Martine, died April 28, 2009 after losing her battle with cancer. She was married to the late Robert Burke, who lost his life in Vietnam while serving his country. During her lifetime, she worked in the healthcare system taking care of others. After her retirement, she is most remembered for her passions, taking care of her family and friends, working the used car lot in Fairoaks for her brother. While working at the car lot, she became very close to her young niece, Norma Jean Martine. They shared the love of poetry and The National Enquire while eating the powdered doughnuts they both enjoyed so much! She received an award for her poetry writing in Washington D.C from President Clinton in 1996. She is survived by her best friend and companion of 25 years, David Bliss, at home; her son, Paul Kowalewski and his companion, Marta Bedford of Port Jervis, NY; her daughter, Carmen Carter and her husband, Donald of Salisbury, NY; her brother, Michael C. Martine, Sr. of Middletown and her sisters, Barbara Martine of Atlantic City, NJ and Maureen Palyo of Circleville, NY; her grandchildren: Paul, Tyler, Patrick, Tara, Jacob and Zachary; great-grandchildren, Miah and Hayden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol was predeceased by her grandson, Josh, in 2008. Carol will always be remembered for her compassion towards others. Memorial donations may be made to the Middletown Humane Society at 142 Bloomingburg Rd., Middletown, NY 10940. Cremation services were professionally handled by Flynn Funeral and Cremation Memorial Center, 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Michael wishes to express special thanks to Patricia, Dave, Maureen and Felicia for the being there with Carol in the end.
