The Post-Journal Jamestown, NY October 3, 2008 Charles O. Robbins, 88, of 115 Franklin St., Lakewood, N.Y., died peacefully at 7:30 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 2, 2008) in his home. An area resident for most of his life, he was born May 21, 1920, in Springville, N.Y., a son of the late Clarence O. and Elizabeth Meade Robbins. Before his retirement, he was employed by the Marlin Rockwell Corporation for 36 years. Mr. Robbins also owned and operated the Charles O. Robbins Insurance Agency for 24 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving from Nov. 11, 1942 to Feb. 8, 1946 during World War II. During his tour of duty he received the World War II Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church and a life member of the John W. Tiffany Post 53 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a life member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, Celoron and a life member of the 8th Air Force Historical Society in Savannah, Ga. His other memberships include the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, American Association of Retired Persons, the Jamestown Elks Lodge 263, the LakewoodBusti Golden Agers. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, loved playing golf in his spare time and was an avid reader. He also spent many hours taking care of his property on Franklin St. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Marie Rubner Robbins, whom he married Nov. 9, 1946 in Mayville, N.Y.: two sons Dale C. (Rebecca) Robbins of Lakewood and Bruce D. Robbins of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Nancy R. (Richard) DeSanctis of Elmira, N.Y.; three grandchildren: Anne Robbins of Charlotte, N.C., Theodore Robbins of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and Alison Robbins of Danville, Ky.; a brother, Edward O. Robbins of Westfield; and two sisters: Eva Hunt of Jamestown and Cleo Rubner of Mayville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Robbins; and four sisters: Ada Ordines, Lorraine Rathburn, Alice Perdue and Pearl (Mary) Schohl. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Violet A. Davidson, pastor of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lakewood United Methodist Church or to the Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department.
