COTTONWOOD FALLS (KS) -- Clifford L LAKE, 71, Cottonwood Falls, died Friday, Aug 21, 1998, at a hospital in Emporia (KS). He was born Nov 17, 1926, in Manchester in Dickinson County (KS) to Clifford and Beulah COUP LAKE. He worked for Southwestern bell Telephone 36 years before he retired in 1984. He had served in the army. He was a member and former president of the Cottonwood Falls City Council and a former member of the Chase County School Board. Mr Lake was a member of Zeredatha Lodge No 80, AF&AM, in Cottonwood Falls, Neosho Valley Shrine Club in Emporia, Arab Shrine in Topeka, Southwestern Bell Pioneers, and American Greyhound Association. He had served as commander of Newlee Post No 78 of the American Legion in Cottonwood Falls and was a charter member of Quail Unlimited and the Cottonwood Falls Country Club. He was married to Lucille Irene ANDERSON June 20, 1947, in Hope (KS). She died July 30, 1984. Survivors include sons, Ron LAKE, Cottonwood Falls, and Mark LAKE, Emporia; daughters, Connie SLATER, Olpe (KS), and Janice HARRIS, Paonia C0; a brother, Jim LAKE, Abilene (KS); a sister, Carol CAMERON, Salina (KS); and 10 grandchildren. Services will be at 11am Tuesday at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. Masonic and military graveside services will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cottonwood Falls. Mr Lake will lie in state after 9am today at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chase County All Veterals Memorial, Cottonwood Falls Country Club, or Chase County Emergency Medical Services and sent in care of the funeral home.
