"The Oak Ridger " Newspaper, Oak Ridge TN, October 30, 2000 Constance Louise Hahn, 93 of Oak Ridge died Saturday, October 28, 2000 at Hermitage Gardens Assisted Living Center in Clinton. Born December 23, 1906 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the fourth child in a family of eight children of Francis Alfred and Anna Lake. In 1920, the Lake family moved to Grosse Isle, an island suburb of Detroit. She attended high school there and graduated in 1924 as valedictorian of her class. She graduated in 1929 from the University of Michigan with a degree in botany and elementary science education. After graduation, she returned to Grosse Isle and taught in the elementary school. In 1936, she began graduated work in the chemistry department of Wayne State University where she also served as instructor in chemistry. It was there she met Richard Hahn whom she married on June 25, 1938 in the family home on Grosse Isle. The Hahns took up residence in Detroit and lived there for 39 years. In 1940, when her son Paul was born, she gave up teaching duties and became a full-time mother and homemaker, which she especially enjoyed, her family said. Mrs. Hahn was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and was active in many of the church's organizations. In Oak Ridge, she became a member of Faith Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons: Paul Hahn of Zearing, Iowa, Thomas Hahn and his wife Sigred of Cincinnati, Ohio; Brother - Robert Lake of Lake Angelus, Michigan; Granddaughter - Christine Kelly and her husband Christopher; Grandsons - Richard Hahn and his wife Leigh, Michael Hahn and his wife Angela David Hahn and Arthur Tiedtke; Cousins - Charles and Barbara Stechow; 3 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Three other brothers and another sister died earlier. They were: Francis Albert Lake, Ricahrd Holdsworth Lake, Thomas Edward Lake and Lillian Catherine Goodyear. The funeral will be held at 1:00p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2000 at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. James P. Evers officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that any memorials be in the form o donations to Faith Lutheran Church, 1300 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00pm Wednesday at the church. Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
