Daniel M. Lake
               May 19, 1917 - January 20, 2001
               SPOKANE, Wash. - Daniel Lake, 83, died Saturday.

               He was born in Naches, Wash., and graduated from Astoria High
School in1935. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II
and retired as a captain. In 1961 he became supervisor of timber sales at the
Oregon State Forestry Department in Salem, retiring in 1980. He was a
volunteer fireman in South Salem and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Elks.
               Survivors include his wife, Marie, whom he married in 1947;
daughter, Darlene Rotell of Spokane; two grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
               Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Contributions: Hospice of
