Sun Journal; Lewiston ME; 1999-11-12; PORTLAND ... Debra B. Lake, 53, of Westbrook, formerly of Chesterville, a woman with a zest for life, passion for charitable works and an abundance of love for her family, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 10, at the Maine Medical Center [PORTLAND], of complications from a brain aneurysm. Born in Chesterville, Feb. 14, 1946, a daughter of Dana Butterfield and Iva Clements Butterfield, she grew up in Chesterville and attended Farmington High School, where she was a majorette. She developed a love of horses at an early age on the small farm where her family lived. She spent much of her time with her special horse, Patsy and had her for many years. In 1964, she married Terrance Z. Lake and welcomed a baby daughter, Theresa Marie. The couple moved to Albany, N.Y., where Mrs. Lake worked for the telephone company. The couple later returned to Maine and eventually settled in the Portland area. Mrs. Lake later spent numerous years working for H.M. Payson and Dean Witter in the securities industry. She also worked part-time at the Dress Barn in South Portland. She devoted several hours of her time to charity. The Bruce Roberts Fund and the Ronald McDonald House were just two of the charities she was committed to. In 1986, her first grandson, Dana, was born. The following year, she welcomed a granddaughter, Lynn. Despite her status as a grandparent, Mrs. Lake was notorious for combining her joie de vivre with her love for Dana and Lynn. She enjoyed hiking, riding motorcycles, fishing, boating, camping and working out. She was also widely known for her love of shopping, especially for antiques. Survivors include her daughter, Theresa Lake Hoffer and son-in-law, Michael Hoffer, grandson, Dana Kitchin and granddaughter, Lynn Kitchin, all of Scarborough; former mother-in-law, Arzena Sargent of Portland; sister, Anita Allen and brother-in-law, Clyde Allen of New Sharon; brother, Dennis Butterfield and sister-in-law, Barbara Butterfield of Chesterville; brother, Michael Butterfield and sister-in-law Carol Butterfield of Augusta; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
