Springfield Union-News; Springfield MA; 2002-8-6 Donald Taylor Lake 1930 - 2002 SPRINGFIELD - Donald T. Lake, 72, a longtime resident of Springfield and former resident of Bennington, VT, died early Sunday morning at his residence. He was born and educated in Bennington, VT, the son of the late Dwight and Olive (Jenkins) Lake, and was a graduate of Burr & Burton Seminary, Manchester, VT, Class of 1948. Donald earned his undergraduate degree in physical education from Springfield College, Class of 1952. He entered the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army Company M. 223rd Infantry Regiment, and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the National Defense Service Medal. Donald was employed for over 30 years with Peter Pan World Travel Company, from which he retired as President in the early 1990s. He was a member of the Elm-Belcher Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Agawam, Adriatic Club, Springfield Lodge of Elks #61 and the American Legion Post 275. Donald was an avid golfer and longtime member of Shaker Farms Country Club of Westfield. He was the husband of the late Helen V. (Litchfield) Lake who died in January of 1985, and leaves his dear friend and companion, Sophie C. (Delivorias) Speliopoulos, with whom he made his home; one daughter, Barbara A. Lake of West Springfield; and one uncle, John H. Lake of Port Charlotte, FL. His funeral will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Rd., with burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, both of Springfield.
