Published in The Canon City Daily Record on June 9, 2015 Carson City CO Barrett, Donna - Akron Donna Barrett, 76, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Pueblo, Colorado passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at Unity Point Health - St. Luke's in Sioux City. There will be no local services. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Christian Family Fellowship Church in Canon City, Colorado. Burial will be in Quinter, Kansas. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Donna Lou Lake was born August 24, 1938 in Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Alvis and Fern (Heitschmidt) Lake. She attended school in Culver and Enterprise, Kansas, before graduating from Longmont High School in Longmont, Colorado. Donna met her husband, Claude Barrett, while attending Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Claude Milton Barrett in September 17, 1957 in Longmont, Colorado. They made their home in Aurora, Fort Collins, Littleton, Canon City, Colorado Springs and Pueblo West, Colorado. Donna worked numerous administrative and clerical duties until she began her involvement and employment with the Navigators Ministries in Colorado Springs. After moving to Pueblo West, Colorado, she worked as a secretary for the Majestic Baptist Church until her retirement. Claude passed away March 1, 2014 in Pueblo. After Claude's passing, she moved to Akron, Iowa for a short time before moving to Sioux City, Iowa to live at Northern Hills Independent Living. Through the years, she enjoyed knitting, quilting, scrap booking and Facebook. While in living in Pueblo, she was a member of Majestic Baptist Church. She was active in church activities, including numerous small group bible studies. Her passion and love were spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great children. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her three sons: Randy (Nita) Barrett of Leesburg, VA, Jeff (Shireen) Barrett of Minneapolis, MN, and Kerry (Marla) Barrett of Akron, IA; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude; and a daughter: Melony Gay Barrett.
