Springville Journal; Springville NY; 2000-7-6 Doris Campbell Doris Marian Lake Campbell, 83, of Hunt Valley, Md., formerly of Gowanda and Boston, died June 28, 2000 at her home. Her late husband, Frederick John Campbell, operated Campbell's Furniture Store in Gowanda for many yeras. She graduated from Fredonia Normal School in 1936, and devoted the early years of her teaching career to the classroom. She returned to SUNY Fredonia to receive an MS degree and later received a certificate in the Spalding Method from SUNY at Buffalo. She developed her own multi-sensory mehtod of teaching reading, which had outstanding results. Many students' lives were dramatically changed, benefiting from the devotion and love for her work as a private reading tutor. As a result of illness, she retired in 1998. Survivors include children, Mary Lee Campbell-Wisley of Forestville, H. Scott Campbell of Burlington, Conn., and Margaret Campbell Walsh of Hunt Valley, Md.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, and a son, Theodore F. Campbell. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 1, from St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Gowanda. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Mentley Funeral Home, Gowanda.
