Born Jan. 10, 1917, in Strasburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward Lake Sr. and Anna Catherine (Overholtz) Lake. She was an active member of the Shenandoah United Methodist Church, Millville. She retired in 1985 from Cliffside Inn in Hapers Ferry, She worked for the Musselman Fruit Company, Inwood, and Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick. She was also a reporter for several years for the Spirit Newspaper of Jefferson Farmer's Advocate for the Millville area. She leaves one nephew, Thomas A. Lake and his wife. Cynthia, of Detour, Md.; three nieces, Sandra D. Hemp and her husband, Billy, of Jefferson, Md., Linda A. Whipp and her husband, Bobby, of Jefferson, Md., and Andra C. Harkins and her fiance, Skip Vermillion, of Brunswick, Md.; eight great-nephews; five great-nieces; two great-nephews and seven great-great-nieces; one brother and one sister-in-law, Thomas E. Lake Jr. and Drucilla of Brunswick, Md.; and one brother-in-law, Eugene DeWalt of Carlisle, Pa. She was preceded in death by one niece, Virginia Volland; two sisters, Helen Himes and Louise DeWalt. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday July 24,1999 at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with the Rev. Douglas Fraim officiating. Interment will be in the United Church of Christ Reformed Cemetery of Jefferson, Md. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 23,1999, at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Himes and Louise DeWalt; and a niece. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in United Church of Christ Reformed Cemetery, Jefferson, Md. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
