Published in the Lincoln Journal Star on 2/5/2009 Lincoln NE Dorothy E. Lake peacefully passed away Tuesday (2/3/09). Dorothy was born February 12, 1919 to Edward and Mary Brabec of Wilber, Neb. She graduated from Wilber High School in 1937 and attended University of Nebraska before moving to southern California in 1946. Dorothy married Walter Lake in 1947 in San Diego. Walter had also moved to southern California. Both had been close friends in Nebraska, and thus began the 62 years of their beautiful marriage. In San Diego, Dorothy was the private secretary at Phillips-Ramsey Advertising Agency which began careers that would take them to Idaho where Dorothy was secretary to the president of Idaho First National Bank, then to a similar post at Southern California Gas Company, where, in her spare time she was a star pitcher for the company's girl softball team. Dorothy was a member of the Northridge Guild of Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. As a friendly professional Dorothy and husband, Walter, served a number of radio broadcasting corporations culminating as vice president of husband Walter Lake's KFRE Broadcasting Corporation in Fresno, where she continued to share her skills and warm personality with a host of community organizations including charter membership of Fresno Community Hospital, House Hearing Institute of Los Angeles and their 25 year membership in the Sunnyside and Sam Joaquin Country Clubs. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Walter Lake, Fresno, Calif.; her niece, MaryAnn Navock, Lincoln; grandnieces, Debra Potter, Aurora, Neb.; Lori Kirkpatrick, Lincoln; and grandnephew, Thomas Hart, Crete. Memorial services 10 a.m. Friday (2/6/09) at Jay Chapel, Madera, Calif. Interment: San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella, Calif. Remembrances may be made to individually chosen charities.
