Press & Sun Bulletin Binghamton, NY 25 May 2008 Dorothy Lillian Guernsey Lake of Binghamton Dorothy was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 24, 2008, one month before her 95th birthday. She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Charles H. and Mable M. Guernsey; husband, Earl W. Lake; sister, Elizabeth Reed Schoonover; brother, Harold Guernsey; sister-in-law, Edith Lake Velie; brother-in-law, Alva Lake; and her daughter-in-law, Elvena Lake. She is survived by her loving children, Harold A. Lake, Binghamton, Howard C. and Sandra Lake, Guilford, Ronald B. and Phyllis Lake, Kirkwood, and Elsie and Dennis Lockhart, Binghamton; grandchildren, Vicky (Lake) and Lee Turner, Todd Lake and Denise, Mark Lake and Jennifer, Kimberly (Lake) and Daniel Beacham, Laurie (Lake) Barrett, Kathleen (Lockhart) and Christopher Nabinger, and Stephen Lockhart; great-grandchildren, Brittany Lake, Hannah Lake, Christina and Emilie Beacham, and twins, Jadelynn and Jason Nabinger; sister-in-law, Birtha (Lake) Phillips; and several nieces, nephews, stepchildren, step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren; and her dear loving friends of Sunshine Valley and Grace Lee Wesleyan Churches. Dorothy was born on June 24th, 1913 at the home of her parents in Lester, N.Y. She graduated from Alice Freeman Palmer (Windsor) High School and Geneseo Normal School (Geneseo State University). Upon graduation, she started a long teaching career. Dorothy taught in several one-room schoolhouses in Lester, Hornby, Beaver Dams, and Conklin. She returned to Windsor and taught second grade for over 30 years. When the Bell and Weeks schools were built she organized and opened the libraries and remained as the Weeks librarian until she retired. When she retired from Windsor, Dorothy and Earl returned to Beaver Dams. Dorothy was asked to return to teaching when the Christian school opened in Interlaken. She taught there for a few years and was active in the Grace Lee Wesleyan Church, where she taught Sunday school and held various offices. After her husband passed away, Dorothy returned to Binghamton to be near her children and grandchildren, becoming active in the Sunshine Valley Wesleyan Church, where her father, Rev. Charles Guernsey, had served as Pastor. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sunshine Valley Wesleyan Church, 407 Blatchley Rd., Windsor, N.Y., with Pastor Jake Robinson officiating. Burial will be Thursday, May 29, at 10:00 a.m. in Central Valley Cemetery, Hornby, N.Y., with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lee Wesleyan Memorial Church, 2075 Chambers Rd., Beaver Dams, N.Y., with Pastor Matthew Pickering officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 88 Chapel St., Windsor, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
