Aurora Advertiser; Aurora MO; 2002-4-19 Dorothy Mae (Lake) Burgin, 82, of Shell Knob, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, in her home. She was born March 22, 1942, in Abilene, Kansas. She was the youngest of nine children growing up and attending school in Clay Center, Kansas. In the 1960's she received her teaching certificate from Outagamie County Normal Teaching School and graduated later from Wisconsin University in Osh Kosh. She taught elementary school for 20 years in Wisconsin and Iowa. She retired in 1982, moving to Shell Knob. Mrs. Burgin was a member of the Central Community United Methodist Church, in Shell Knob. She married Willis Burgin, who preceded her in death May 18, 1996. She was also predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Sheila Jackson, in 1987; three sisters; and five brothers. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Earl Beatty, of Shell Knob; a son and his wife, Rev. Willis Burgin, Jr. and Sharla, of Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Aaron Beatty, Wesley Burgin, Heather Beatty and Dorothy Jackson; ten nieces; 15 nephews; several cousins, and a host of friends. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 20, in Central Community United Methodist Church, in Shell Knob, with Rev. David Collum officiating, under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home, in Shell Knob. Burial will be in Meade, Kansas. Mrs. Burgin was born March 29, 1920, in Clay Center, Kansas, the daughter of Harry E. and Ida A. Cowing Lake. She was a graduate of Wisconsin University and taught elementary school for 20 years in Wisconsin and Iowa, retiring in 1982 and moving to Shell Knob. She was a member of the Central Community United Methodist Church of Shell Knob. She married Willis Burgin on March 22, 1942, in Abilene, Kansas, and he preceded her in death May 18, 1996. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Beatty of Shell Knob; one son, Willis Burgin Jr. of the state of Wisconsin; four grandchildren, 10 nieces, 15 nephews, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheila Jackson, in 1987; three sisters and five brothers. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob with Rev. David Collum officiating. Burial will be in Meade, Kansas, under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Shell Knob.
