Grants Pass Daily Courier; Grants Pass OR; 2008-11-8 Elaine Kay Lake, 73, of Rogue River died Oct., 31, 2008 at her home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Nov. 15 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. Contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, 939 S. E. Eighth St., Grants Pass, OR 97626; or to a cancer research foundation. Lake was born March 31. 1935, in Omaha, Neb., to Rip and Daisy Van Winkle. In 1956, she left Nebraska with Terry DeMartino to start a life in Southern California. She worked as an office manager at Wegge Motors. In 1961, she married Larry Lake, who died before her. They owned an automobile dealership in Crescent City, Calif and in 1970, she was the first female who GMAC granted ownership of a dealership. She later owned restaurants in Arcata, Calif., and Willow Creek, Calif. In 1987, she moved to Rogue River and worked in real estate. She was a member of the Eagles, Southern Oregon Multiple Listing Service and the Million Dollar Club. For many years, she was the top agent at Bradley Realty, and she was active in many areas of her community. She enjoyed working in her garden and spending time on her river property entertaining her friends. Survivers include a daughter, Beverly Jean Eads of Kodiak, Alaska; two grandsons and several step-grandsons and step-great-granchildren. A grandson, Clay Dunham, died before her.
