White Oak Independent; White Oak TX; 2013-3-14 Eldon Gene Thane KILGORE Funeral services for Eldon Gene Thane of White Oak were held here Tuesday at Forest Home Baptist Church, with the Revs. Tony Hoefner and David Banks officiating. Entombment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Longview. Mr. Thane died peacefully at his home Friday, March 8, 2013, surrounded by loved ones. He was 81. Born April 27, 1931 in Abilene to Henry and Emma Thane, he served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953, where he spent 14 months stationed in Germany. After his military service, he worked for the Department of Public Safety, retiring as sergeant of the Highway Patrol in Longview in 1986. After retiring, he served eight years as a municipal judge in Lakeport. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in White Oak, where he served on many committees and taught Sunday school for teens. Mr. Thane was a 50-year endowed member of the Quana Masonic Lodge 689. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Thane of Flower Mound; and a sister, Beulamay Goates of Morgan Mill. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Emilie Thane; his children, Larry and Marilyn Thane of Austin, Nathan and Cindy Thane of Austin, Scott and Lori Burton of Jasper, and Clay and Mary Burton of Kilgore; his grandchildren, Anthony and Daylen Thane of Seattle, Wash., Cynthia Thane of Houston, Ethan and Phillip Thane of Austin, Josh and Jada Burton of Kilgore, and Claire and Sam Burton of Jasper; two great-granddaughters; sisters and brothers-in-law Delores Medford of Haskell, Geraldine and Wayne Nicholson of Wichita Falls, Mittie Ann and Wayne Perry of Elderville, Tommie Jo and Jack Young of Tatum, and E.J. and Gudrun Belote of Nashville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
