Published in the Bay City Times on 12/8/2003 Bay City, MI Essex, Elizabeth Ann (Laker) 'Libby' Essexville, Michigan Beloved mother and grandmother entered into eternity on Saturday, December 6, 2003. She passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter. Libby fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. She rarely complained and had a kind and gentle spirit and a ready smile. Born April 1, 1926 in Danville, IL, she was the only child of Chris and Nellie Laker. She graduated from Bismark High School in Danville in 1944. She worked at Chuckles Candy Factory. On April 20, 1964, she married the love of her life, David R. Essex in Danville. They were happily married 39 years. He died unexpectedly August 7, 2003. She then moved next door with her daughter. In 1970, Dave and Libby moved to Michigan. They started Essex Plumbing and Heating. In 1994 they turned the business over to their son-in-law, Gary. Their life centered around God and their only daughter and her family. Nothing pleased Libby more than to spend time with her daughter and her husband, Beth and Gary Hahn, grandsons, Lance and Logan, and granddaughter Larissa Elizabeth, all of Essexville. She also enjoyed visiting with her friends and neighbors, and she loved traveling. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Gracia and Glenn Marsh of Auburn, Pat and Ron Lucas of Bay City, and brother-in-law, Bud and Gretchen Bailey of Bentley, and many nieces and nephews. Besides David, she was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Michael, her parents, parents-in-law, Charlotte and William Essex, sisters-in-law Hazel and Gene Nowak and Carol Bailey. Her family would like to thank Dr. Keith Moody, his nurse, Michelle, Dr. Mark Ginther, and the entire staff for their wonderful care during both Libby and Dave's illnesses. The family would also like to thank Chris Musser R.N. and Pam Jurgens of Bay County VNA/Hospice and special niece, Susie Plessner, for their loving care. Libby was also blessed to have Sally Grzegorczyk, Kristy Coburn, Janice O'Hare, and Linda Kintner caring for her. Each special caregiver became like family and Libby's family is very grateful.
