The Olympian Olympia, WASH May 13, 2000 Elmer Merrill Lake, 72, an eight-year resident of Olympia, died of congestive heart failure Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Panorama City Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center, Olympia. He was born Jan. 28, 1928, to William and Grace (Aylesworth) Lake in Burton Township, Mich. He married Gladys Harmon on May 17, 1947. Mr. Lake served in the Coast Guard from 1946 to 1947 as a machinist. He worked as a journeyman electrician and meter reader. He was a member of Olympia Senior Center, Eagles and was past president of the Square Dance Club in Ketchican, Alaska. Mr. Lake enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, being a scout leader and bowling. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Lake of Olympia; his son, Gary M. Lake of Ketchican, Alaska; his daughter, Debra M. Sutherby of Montesano; his brother, Dallas Lake of Michigan; two sisters, Deloris Belt and Dorothy Lake, both of Michigan; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
