The Chronicle-Herald, Volume 56, Number 61 {Issue number confirmed} Halifax NS Canada Friday, March 12, 2004 LAKE, Ervin Melvin - It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Ervin Melvin Lake, 83, Cheverie, formerly of Bramber, Hants Co., on March 10, 2004, in Dartmouth General Hospital, Dartmouth. Born December 27, 1920, in Bramber, he was a son of the late Melvin and Maude (Lake) Lake. Ervin retired from Nova Scotia Power Corp. marking 29 years of dedicated service. He served with the Canadian Army from 1940-1945. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No.9 and past Master of the Shore Lodge, No. 134. He was a member of the Cheverie United Church serving as chairman of the Board of Stewards prior to his death. He enjoyed trout fishing and fishing for bass on the beaches below his cabin in Tennecape. Ervin's real passion was golfing with his buddies at Minas View Golf Links in Cambridge where, at the age of 80, on the 7th hole, he scored a hole in one. For the past several years a golf tournament was held in his honour and now will be called the "Ervin Lake Memorial Golf Tournament". He is survived by his companion and friend, Marion "Mickey" Crossley and her children, Kirk, Cheryl, Karleen, Gina, Barclay and their families; sister, Madge (Orland) Lantz, Falmouth and their family; brother, Alfred (Viola), Bramber; close relatives, uncle Elmer and family; aunt Bertha and family and many cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Medford in infancy, and triplet brothers, Merton and Ronald in infancy and Burton at two years of age. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 13, in J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 215, Summerville. Funeral will be held Sunday, March 14, at 2 p.m. in Cheverie United Church, Cheverie, Alex Mosher officiating.
