The Daily Star; Oneonta NY; 2000-3-16 Esther C. Whipple HAMILTON 94 Mrs. Esther C. Whipple, 82, of Pine Street, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton. Born Nov. 7, 1917, in Auburn, she was the daughter of Jay Lake and Lillian Alden Harter. She was a direct descendent of John Alden. Esther was educated in Auburn public schools and was a graduate of the Cortland School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Auburn Hospital until her marriage to Edwin E. Whipple on Jan. 1, 1943. He predeceased her on April 23, 1990. She was a homemaker, and later worked for Dr. John T. Oates as a dental assistant from 1958 until her retirement in 1979. Mrs. Whipple was a member of the Park United Methodist Church of Hamilton. She was a 57-year active member of the Hamilton Chapter #511 of the Order of Eastern Star where she served as past matron in 1956, and as grand chaplain in 1993. In later years, she took great pleasure in devoting herself to community service and needs by transporting people to medical appointments, attending to personal needs, and volunteering at various community and church activities. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest source of pride, and she actively attended their school and athletic functions over the years. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Drew Uhlig and Deborah and David Rhyde, all of Hamilton; two sons and daughters-in-law, David R. and Ellen Whipple of Davenport and Jay S. and Patricia Whipple of Hamilton; a sister, Priscilla Isgar of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Virginia (Whipple) and Robert Honsinger of Artesia, Miss.; nine grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Alden Harter. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2000, from the Park United Methodist Church, Broad Street, Hamilton, with an Eastern Star service. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Hamilton. Friends are invited and may call at the Burgess Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Eastern Star Home, 1400 Utica St., Oriskany, N.Y. 13424; or to the Park United Methodist Church, P.O.
