Obituary: Eugene Lake Published Tuesday, September 23, 2003 Columbia Daily Tribune Columbia Missouri Eugene E. Lake, 81, of Columbia, formerly of Jefferson City, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at South Hampton Nursing Center in Columbia. Private graveside services will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Kirksville. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Dr. Lake was born April 18, 1922, in Jefferson City to Leon and Jessie Ewing Lake. He married Virginia "Deanie" Robinson on May 25, 1944, in Kirksville, and she survives. Dr. Lake graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1940. He attended Central Methodist College in Fayette and Kirksville State Teacher's College. He graduated from the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery. He was a physician in Jefferson City from 1947 until his retirement in 1983. He was a founding physician of Charles E. Still Hospital, where he worked in the surgery department. He was a member of the Missouri Osteopathic Association, the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the Osage Valley Osteopathic Association. He was a member of Jefferson Lodge No. 43, A.F.&A.M., the Capital City Shrine Club, the B.P.O. of Elks and Iota Tau Sigma fraternity. He was past-president of the Jefferson City Jaycees. Survivors also include two daughters, Becky MacLellan of Columbia and Cindy Taylor of St. Louis; two sons, Eugene Lake Jr. and Gregory Lake, both of Columbia; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A brother, Leon B. Lake, preceded him in death. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the charity of donor's choice.
