She graduated from the University of Missouri, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Later she moved to Tyler, where she met and married Robert P. Lake on Nov. 29, 1941. She was active in community affairs as an early member of the Tyler Service League, which became the Junior League of Tyler. She was instrumental in establishing the W. E. Stewart Blood Bank on 1951 and was a founding Board Member of Hospice of East Texas in 1982. She served as Honorary Chairman of the 20th Anniversary of Hospice on East Texas service to the community in November 2002. She was a devout Christian and longtime and devoted member of the Friendly Bible Class of Marvin United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lake was preceded in death by her husband Robert P. Lake, and is survived by her sons, Peyton Lake of Tyler and Brenton Lake of Dallas, and their respective families, Ann, Peter and Kathryn Lake of Tyler and Jamie DeWitt of Waynesville, MO., She was attended by faithful and loving caregivers, Mrs. Bennie Franks, Mrs. Janette Kelly, Mrs. Joyce Wideman and Mrs. Blondine Corbin. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel at Marvin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Dent officiating under the direction of Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, Marvin United Methodist Church, Stewart Regional Blood Center or the charity of one's choice.
