Times Herald Record Middletown, NY 26 Mar 2013 FLORENCE JANE ROBBINS June 8, 1930 - March 12, 2013 Thousand Oaks, CA Florence Jane Robbins died on March 12, 2013 at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, CA, after a long illness. She was born as Florence Jane Kelsey in Goshen, NY, to Clifford E. Kelsey Sr. and his wife, Emma Tuthill Kelsey, on June 8, 1930. She graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois as a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, then became a school teacher in upstate New York, and earned a Master's degree in Education. She moved to California, where she taught school again, and met her husband, Howard Robbins. The Robbins family moved to Vestal, New York in 1960, and returned to Thousand Oaks, California in 1968. In addition to her work as a homemaker and mother, and activity in the American Association of University Women, she joined a flight-school in Camarillo, earned a pilot's license, and became an instructor. She subsequently worked for a small airline, and then as a real-estate agent until an increasing disability made that impossible. She died three days short of her 56th Wedding Anniversary. She is survived by her brother, Clifford E. Kelsey, Jr. of Hamptonburgh, NY; her husband, Howard Robbins of Thousand Oaks, CA; five children, and five grandchildren.
