FRANCES `WILLA' BURNS
BRYSON CITY - Frances Willard "Willa" Lakey Burns died Monday, Nov. 12,
2001. She was born May 6, 1910, in the Fairview section of Buncombe County.
She was the child of Lucinda Caroline Winchester and Albert Baxter Lakey.
She told her children many stories of growing up in the timber camps of
Smokemont, Calderwood and Proctor at a time when the world was a very
different place. She was married to Robert Burns for 44 years, who died in
1984. Granny lived at home on Lands Creek until May of this year, where she
was cared for by her children. A special thanks to Nick Niquette of Mountain
View Manor for taking such good care of our mother these last months. She
will be missed by her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. The
family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bill Moody Funeral
Home. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home with the Rev. Ed Kilgore officiating. Burial will be in Swain Memorial
Park.
