The Chronicle-Herald/Mail Star; Halifax NS Canada; 2008-11-3 & 2008-11-4 BACON, Frances Eleanor - 83, Windsor, passed away on October 31, 2008, in Hants Community Hospital. Born April 1, 1925, in Hants County, to the late Harry and Hazel (Butland) Lake, she attended school in Walton and at the age of 17 entered Nova Scotia Teachers' College in Truro, graduating in 1943. She furthered her education at Dalhousie and Acadia universities. A love of learning and a passion for teaching infused her life. Frances taught in Colchester County and Hants County, retiring from Windsor Regional High School in 1990. She was active as a Brownie and Guide Leader, and a Division Commissioner for the Girl Guides of Canada. Outside the classroom, gardening provided her with both inspiration and relaxation. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Donald MacKinnon), Windsor; grandson, Paul (Deborah), Edmonton; sisters, Sheila Putnam, Dartmouth, Marjorie Maltus, Walton, and brother, Carl (Heather), Kitchener; eight nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James W. E. Bacon; brothers, Laurie, Frank, Gerald, and Harry. She wished to have a family graveside service, with burial beside her husband in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
