The Susquehanna County Independent; Montrose, PA; 1999-5-12 Francis 'Booty' E. Lake, Sr. Age 78 Susquehanna, Pa. Francis E. Lake, Sr., 78, Susquehanna, Pa. passed away May 6, 1999 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa., after an extended illness. He was born in Susquehanna, Pa., July 30, 1921 to the late William L. and Gladys (Bedford) Lake. He was predeceased by his wife Kay June 6, 1986; two sisters, Marguerite and Madeline. Francis is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kellea and Randy Miller, Quaquage, N.Y.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Francis E., Jr. and Barbara Lake, Susquehanna, Pa., William Timothy and Sandi Lake, Windsor, N.Y., Ed and Kim Youket, Apalachin, N.Y.; one brother and sister-in-law, Gearld [this is the spelling in the obit - ML] and Jan Lake, Susquehanna, Pa.; two sisters, Loretta Hunt, Chenango Forks, N.Y., Dorothy Holmes, Susquehanna, Pa.; seven stepchildren, twelve grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Susquehanna High School and a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. Francis participated in the Invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, where he was severely wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was employed by the Erie Railroad and Coach Shops for 40 years before his retirement. Francis was a member of the American Legion Post No. 86 of Susquehanna, Pa., American Legion Post No. 1645, Binghamton, N.Y. and VFW, Gread Bend, Pa. His greatest passion was his beloved baseball games and he was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He was also a country music lover, especially the older performers. He liked to play cards and fix 'home cooked meals for his family'. Francis was a true American Hero. Funeral services were held 9:30 a.m., May 10, 1999 at Hennessey's Funeral Home, 208 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, Pa. and 10 a.m. at St. John's Church, Susquehanna, Pa. where a mass of Christian Burial was offered by Rev. Joseph Fanti. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Susquehanna, Pa. The family received friends May 9, 1999 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Susquehanna Fire Dept., Ambulance Service, Disabled Vets of N.E. Pa., or American Heart Association.
