Vancouver Sun; Vancouver BC Canada; 2000-1-7 LAKE, George Harold passed away peacefully at Burnaby Hospital after a brief illness, 5 Jan 2000 at the age of 89. George was born in England 21 March 1910 and came to Canada as a home child at the age of 13 to work on a farm in Ontario. After completing the requirements as a home child he moved to Burnaby, BC and later met and married his wife Margaret of 60 years. George started his career as a Class 3 Engineer with Boeing and later started his own manufacturing company in Vancouver. Before he retired he was a manufacturer's agent where he became extremely well known in the furniture industry throughtout BC. George had several loves in life including that as a gardener. When he first came to Burnaby he was a gardener at what is known as the Heart House. Although he never made Gardening his career it became his hobby. He was also an active member and past president of the Burnaby Garden Club. George and Margaret's yard was the showcase of the neighbourhood. Another of George's loves was an appreciation of music and spent many hours relaxeing to its glorious sounds. George also appreciated art having learned from his wife who was an accomplished artist. Margaret predeceased George on 14 Nov 1999. George leaves to mourn his passing, son George (Delores)Lake, daughters Louise (Joe)Selby and Gertrude Luke, grandsons Lyle (Monica)Dunn, Karl (Jody) Dunn, Benjamin Dunn and James Manfron. Granddaughters, Karen (Llyod ) King and Shawna Manfron, great-granddaughters Leslie, Jessica and Sarah Dunn, Yvonne and Victoria King,brother Ron (Lorna) Davies and many friends. A Celebration of George's life will be held at West Burnaby United Church, 6050 Sussex Ave., Burnaby on Monday 10 Jan at 2 pm. His love and kindness towards life will be deeply missed by all the lives he touched. The family wishes to express the sincerest and heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Michael's Centre.
