LAKE, George R; 84; Peabody A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005, in Donelson, Sewell & Mathews Mortuary for George R. Lake, who died May 5 at age 84. Mr. Lake was born April 5, 1921, in Peabody, Kan., and moved to Forest Grove in 1936. During World War II, he served in the Army in the South Pacific and received a Purple Heart. He was a plumbing contractor. In 1945, he married Esther Heiney. Survivors include his wife; son, Randy; daughters, Georgia Smith and Kay Rosling; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Donelson, Sewell and Mathews Mortuary, 171 NE Third Ave. Graveside services and interment will follow at Fir Lawn Memorial Park, 1070 W. Main St. Mr. Lake was born April 5, 1921, in Peabody, Kan., the son of Millard and Tabitha Dillard Lake. He was raised and educated in Kansas and Arkansas. In 1936 he moved to Forest Grove. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. He was wounded in the South Pacific and received a Purple Heart along with other medals. He also survived the Pearl Harbor attack. On Nov. 25, 1945, he married Esther S. Heiney in Vancouver, Wash. Mr. Lake worked as a plumber and owned Lakes Plumbing in Beaverton. He later contracted for builders. He enjoyed going on walks, trips to Reno and visiting with people. He traveled during the winter to California and Yuma, Ariz. He loved to fish and hunt. Survivors include his wife, Esther Lake, Hillsboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Carlene Lake, Hillsboro; Two daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia and David R. Smith, Vancouver, Wash., Kay and Drake Rosling, Keizer; a sister, Wanda Hammon, Livermore, Calif.; a brother, Bill Lake, Calif.; tree grandchildren, Shella Lake, Amy Rosling and Adam Rosling; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Lake; two sisters, Mildred and Naomi; and a grandson, Bret Lake. Donelson, Sewell and Mathews Mortuary, Hillsboro, are in charge of arrangements.
