Lake of state Route 32, an area resident since 1957 and a World War II veteran, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Kingston Hospital. He was 86. An area resident since 1957 he was employed for 28 years at the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P) in Albany, Hyde Park and Saugerties. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with two stars and the Victory Medal. He was an avid Bingo player. A parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow Roman Catholic Church, he was a life and fourth-degree member of the Saugerties Knights of Columbus Council No. 4536 and a life member of the Saugerties Veterans of Foreigh Wars Post 5034 and Saugerties American Legion Post No. 72. His wife, Gertrude Lake, died in 1997. Born June 3, 1914, in Schenectady, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Durocher Lake. Survivors include a dear friend, Yolande Jones of Saugerties; a brother, Joseph Lake of Leominster, Mass.; three sisters, Virginia Oropallo of Schenectady, Edna DeJohn of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Beatrice Nelson of Scotia; a niece, Patricia Musillo Dixon, and a nephew Robert Musillo both of Saugerties. Two brothers, Charles and Lewis Lake died previously. The funeral procession will form 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, corner of John and Lafayette streets. It will proceed to St. Mary of the Snow Roman Catholic Church, where at 10 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Burial with military honors by the Saugerties American Legion Post No. 72 and the Saugerties Veterans of Foreigh Wars Post No. 5034 at St. Mary's Cemtery, Saugerties."
